Nissan L60 Limitations & General Build Specifications

Patrols restored through this website are intended to be reliable to the extent possible for the OEM technology available. They require forethought and skill to be driven off-road safely. Vintage off-road technology DOES NOT offer any automatic safety features. A complete understanding of the L60 Nissan Patrol’s limitations, specifically hill climbs and descents, must be understood. These vehicles should not be considered equal to the best modern stock off-road vehicles. With proper caution and skill, they are excellent vintage off-road vehicles when maintained.

The vintage L60 Patrols were manufactured in the heavy truck division of Nissan to meet a military specification ultimately won by the Toyota FJ40 because it was cheaper per unit. They were built during the “Deming Revolution” of manufacturing in Japan when their factories prized quality materials and construction above all other design goals. As a result, the OEM materials of construction remain serviceable almost sixty years later. Patrols for sale on this website are offered with original and modern parts. They are sold “as is”. Typically, they are sold without new paint or body panel repair. Our focus is on restoring the mechanical integrity of the vehicle.

Parts can be hard to source, and restoration depends on parts availability. Actual mileage is undeterminable as they only recorded mileage when in four-wheel drive. Drive trains are typically expected to offer 100,000 miles of service and our vehicles appear to be approximately midway through their life.

They are not “ready” until I personally field test each Patrol.
